Whip It Up Week 3 - Welcome to Texas Y'all!

This week's theme was "Regional Favorites". I had one hell of a time figuring out what to cook and not because I couldn't think of anything either! Texas being the melting pot that it is, you can have a different style of food for every meal and they are all "regional"! For example, I could feed you cheesy grits or biscuits and gravy for breakfast, German brats for lunch, steak and potatoes for dinner and depending on how much you have to drink that night, Menudo for breakfast the next morning!

But when it comes to beverages, there's one thing that springs to mind. Margaritas.

Here in San Antonio, a good margarita can make or break a restaurant. We even have an entire weekend festival devoted to it! Being that I am lazy, I usually get my margaritas one of two ways. Via a restaurant or from store bought mix. But, my sister recently graduated from bar tending school (yes, there is such a thing!) and so I snaked a real live "from scratch" recipe from her.

Erin's Sister's Margarita (makes 2)

kosher salt
2 oz tequila (I used Cuervo Especial)
1 oz lime juice
1 oz triple sec
4 oz sweet & sour

Rim 2 glasses with salt

In a shaker, combine the rest of the ingredients with ice.

Shake and Pour!

You could also dump it all in the blender with 1 cup of ice and have frozen margaritas, but the blender was unavailable so I served them on the rocks.

So, our 3 questions:

1. Was the recipe easy? YES! Just pour and shake!

2. Was it good? YES! The friend that I served it to compared it to one of our favorite restaurants so I was pleased!

3. Will you make it again? Um...DUH! Yes! I may never go back to pre-made mixes again!

No, I do not own real margarita glasses...Sorry! Also, the picture is totally re-staged because I forgot to take a picture the first time because I suck...sorry!
